The Old Gang

Updated: Jun 26, 2022

Last weekend the “gang” got together. We have been doing this for almost 30 years. Most of us are in our 70s and 80s now. I am now the oldest. The Gatherings Are like an ever-changing kaleidoscope of change. Some members have left this earthly plane and one is in a convalescent home.

So here we are in the year of 2021 Rhoda , Linda and Terry, Judy, Darlene, Richard and Me and Kelly and Chuck. They converge upon the house with a mountain of food and excitement about gathering together. The out of towners spend the night here. The only time we are apart is when we go to sleep at night.

As the mountain of food slowly diminishes into our bodies we are engaged in laughter, tears, philosophical conversations, political musings, singing, walking, shopping, listening, emailing, sharing stories. Just a bunch of old chickens enjoying the moment.

Everything is so sweet and so poignant. Since Covid and our last gathering before this, Riley has left this earthly plane leaving Rhoda a widow and all of his loved ones missing his authentic self. Linda and Terry (and so many) are ecstatic that Terry survived a stroke and is well and filled with love and humor. Cinnie’s dear friend Stuart was at home actively in the last stages of dying. We all had the privilege of sharing those intimate moments with him on zoom.

Just another Reminder of the preciousness of life and

the presence of Love. Not to mention the miracle that we were born humans and able to experience so many amazing things in this life of musical chairs.
